The Sunrise Day – East Coast at First Light, Done by Lunch
Pick-up at five, on the beach at Belle Mare before the sun is up, dholl puri at a roadside stall when it is, Mahébourg waterfront, the Pont Naturel and Gris Gris cliffs — back at the hotel by one with the whole afternoon free.
The east coast of Mauritius faces the sunrise, and almost nobody is on it when it happens. This half-day starts at 05:00 so you are standing on Belle Mare beach as the sky turns, with a private car waiting and no one else around.
After the sun is up, breakfast is a roadside dholl puri and a cup of tea where the drivers eat. Then Mahébourg's waterfront and old streets while the town is waking up, the Pont Naturel rock arch on the wild south coast, and the Gris Gris cliffs. You are back at your hotel by 13:00 with a full afternoon left — most guests sleep, then swim.
