Mauritius Honeymoon Day Trips: Private Ideas for Couples
Private boats, sunset cruises and a whole island for the night: the day trips we suggest to couples.
Many couples spend their honeymoon at the hotel pool. That is fine for a few days. But Mauritius is best seen from the water and the road. Here are the day trips we suggest to couples, with a focus on privacy.
1. A private glass-bottom boat and breakfast
This is our favourite morning for couples.
The Private Glass-Bottom Boat & Breakfast Experience starts at Trou aux Biches public beach. You have the boat to yourselves. You look at the reef through the glass bottom, then snorkel at known turtle spots. Swimming and snorkelling gear is included.
Then you sit down to a full Mediterranean breakfast at a beachfront hotel. The trip lasts about 2 hours 15 minutes. It costs from €148 per person.
Our crews say green turtles are often seen and dolphins are sometimes seen. They are wild animals, so no sighting is guaranteed.
2. A private sunset cruise for two (or a few)
Sunset is the most romantic time on the water. On a shared cruise you share the deck with many people. On a private charter, the boat is yours.
The Private Sunset Catamaran Charter runs from 17:00 to 19:00. You choose Grand Baie, Mahébourg or Black River. Mineral water is included. You can add canapés and drinks per person when you book.
It is popular for proposals and anniversaries. Planning a surprise? Tell us on WhatsApp and we will help with the timing.
Want dinner too? There is also a private sunset and dinner charter from 17:00 to 22:00. Ask us for details.
3. A whole private island for the night
For a once-in-a-lifetime night, you can privatise Île des Deux Cocos, a tiny island in the Blue Bay Marine Park. From 4pm to 10am the island and its 1920 Moorish villa are yours, with dinner, breakfast and drinks included. Prefer a day trip? The Île des Deux Cocos day trip is all-inclusive too.
4. A south-east island day
The south-east lagoon around Mahébourg is wide, clear and full of small islands. There is a private honeymoon trip there that visits five islands, with snorkelling, a waterfall, and a lobster lunch with Champagne. Ask us on WhatsApp and we will send the full details.
5. A private island tour, at your own pace
A honeymoon is not only about the sea. A private car with a driver lets you see the island without stress.
- The south: crater lakes, Grand Bassin, Rochester Falls and forest views.
- The north: Pamplemousses garden, Château Labourdonnais (with fruit liqueur tasting) and the Red Church at Cap Malheureux.
You set the pace. Stop for photos when you want. Our island tours are private, with hotel pick-up and drop-off.
6. A slow beach afternoon in the north-west
The north-west coast faces the sunset. Beaches like Trou aux Biches and Mont Choisy have calm water and shade under the casuarina trees. Weekdays are quieter than weekends. Bring a picnic and stay until the sun goes down.
How to plan honeymoon day trips
- Do not book every day. Leave rest days. Three or four trips in a week is plenty.
- Put sea trips early in your stay. If weather moves a trip, you have time to rebook.
- Do mornings at sea. The lagoon is often calmer early. Afternoons can be windy or showery in summer.
- Save the sunset cruise for a special night, like your anniversary or last evening.
- Book private trips early. Private boats are limited and some are on request.
A sample honeymoon week
- Day 2: private glass-bottom boat and breakfast in Trou aux Biches.
- Day 3: rest at the hotel.
- Day 4: private island tour of the south.
- Day 5: beach afternoon in the north-west.
- Day 6: private sunset catamaran.
Keep at least one free day in case the weather moves a boat trip.
Getting to the departure points
Most boat trips do not include hotel transfers. We can book a private transfer so you are picked up and dropped back at your hotel. Just ask when you book.
