La Tourelle de Tamarin Hike
The quiet peak above Tamarin: three and a half hours up through dry forest to a 553-metre summit with the whole west coast below you, morning or at sunset.
La Tourelle rises directly behind the village of Tamarin, and most visitors never notice it. The trail starts gently through dry forest and steepens as it nears the summit, with a few sections where you use your hands and a fixed rope for support on the steepest part. From the top, 553 metres up, you look over Tamarin Bay, Le Morne, the Black River mountains and, on a clear day, most of the south-west. The guide points out the endemic plants and birds that live in this dry forest.
There are two departures: a morning hike and a sunset hike that comes down by headlamp after dark. Groups of two to twelve.
