Cascade 500 Pieds Hike

5 hours

Easy

Down to the foot of the island's tallest waterfall: a four-to-five-hour forest descent with ropes and roots, Fridays only, for walkers who like a real trail.

The hike starts at the Alexandra Falls viewpoint on Plaine Champagne, where the river drops away into the south, and spends the first part along the plateau with views over the south coast. The second part is the reason to come: a steep forest descent on tree roots and ropes to the riverbed, then a short walk along the river to the base of Cascade 500 Pieds, the tallest waterfall on the island.

Time there to swim, eat and look up at it before climbing back out the same way. Groups of two to eight with a Yanature guide.
